Dermlite Carbon - Directions for Use

Intended Use

The DermLite Carbon is intended for non-invasive visual examination of intact skin. It is to be used only by medical professionals in healthcare settings.

CAUTION: Do not look directly into the LED light. Patients must close their eyes during examinations.

CAUTION: Not for use in fire- or explosion-prone environments.

WARNING: Contains chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm (e.g., methylene chloride, hexavalent chromium).

Overview

The DermLite Carbon is a pocket dermatoscope that uses cross-polarized and linear polarized light with a 10x magnification lens. It is powered by a 2CR5 lithium battery.

Operation

  • Hold the DermLite Carbon with LEDs aimed at the lesion, approximately 12 mm (0.5") from the skin.
  • Use your fingers or the included spacer to maintain optimal distance.
  • Press the dome-shaped button to activate cross-polarized LEDs; hold it as long as needed.
  • Press the second button for linear polarization (surface detail).
  • Adjust proximity for best focus.

Battery Replacement

To replace the 2CR5 battery:

  • Squeeze and remove the battery cap.
  • Insert a new battery with contacts forward.
  • Reattach the battery cap securely.
  • The 2CR5 battery is available from DermLite or retailers.

Maintenance

CAUTION: No user modifications are permitted.

Clean the exterior with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Clean the lens with standard optical cleaning tools. Do not immerse or autoclave.

Warranty

5-year warranty for parts and labor. Battery warranty: 1 year.

Disposal

Dispose of battery and electronics separately per local regulations. Do not discard with household waste.
