Dermlite DL3N - Directions for Use

CAUTION: Prior to using the DermLite DL3N, read these instructions and keep them in a safe place for future reference.

CAUTION: United States Federal Law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.

CAUTION: The DermLite DL3N is designed for external examination only.

The DermLite DL3N is a camera-compatible pocket dermatoscope designed to view skin lesions with high magnification and clarity.

Two sets of white LEDs can be activated independently:

  • Cross-polarized light for reduced skin reflection
  • Non-polarized light for immersion fluid dermoscopy

An additional PigmentBoost™ button activates a third set of LEDs.

It features a high-quality, four-element, 25 mm, 10x lens with excellent color correction and minimal distortion. A retractable faceplate spacer allows fixed digital imaging and fluid use.

Directions for Use

Do not look directly into the LED light. Patients must close their eyes during facial exams.

Initial Use: Charge the internal lithium ion battery for at least 4 hours using the provided base.

Hold the DL3N about 1” (~25mm) from the skin. Press and hold the power button (A1) for 1 second to activate cross-polarized mode. A quick tap switches to non-polarized mode. Tap again to toggle back. Use button A2 to activate PigmentBoost™.

For skin contact or photography, use the Focus Dial (B). Position “0” is ideal for photos. Turn off the unit by holding the power button again.

For oil immersion: apply oil only to skin, then contact with extended faceplate. Avoid oil on charging contacts.

Removing the Spacer

Unscrew the Retaining Ring (B1), rotate Focus Dial (B), and allow Spacer (B2) to drop. To reattach, align its pins with notches (D) and rotate the dial until secured. Reattach Retaining Ring.

Eyepiece

For better contrast, attach the optional eyepiece to the 28mm thread (E).

Camera Use

The DL3N includes a 28 mm thread for camera adapters. Use a 28-37 mm ring or appropriate camera-specific adapter. Clean Faceplate (F), set Spacer to “0”. Use macro mode, auto/P mode, and disable flash for best results.

Charging

Plug charger into outlet and base. Place DL3N in base — red “3” = charging, green = fully charged. Approx. 2 hours operation or 600 lesion exams per full charge. Orange = <25% battery.

After ~1,000 charges, replace battery. Slide off handle (G), unplug white connector, replace battery, reattach handle.

Use only the official battery and charger. Others may damage the unit.

Using the Lanyard

Lanyards pose a strangulation risk — use cautiously.

Thread string through eyelet (H), loop through itself (I), and attach via connector (J).

Troubleshooting

  • No Light: Recharge battery. Still no light? Device needs servicing.
  • LED Fails: Contact 3Gen — LEDs are rated for 100,000+ hours.
  • Mechanical Malfunction: Contact 3Gen for service.

Care & Maintenance

No internal adjustments are needed. Do not attempt to open the device.

Cleaning & Sterilization

Clean exterior with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Avoid optics. Don’t use abrasives or immerse in liquid. Don’t autoclave.
