Dermlite DL5 - Directions for Use

 

Intended Use

This device is intended for medical purposes to illuminate body surfaces for non-invasive visual examination of intact skin. It is for external use only by medical professionals in healthcare facilities.

CAUTION: Do not look directly into the LED light. Patients must close their eyes during examinations.

CAUTION: UV Light. Do not look directly at it.

CAUTION: This product contains magnets. Do not use near pacemakers or sensitive devices.

WARNING: This product may expose you to chemicals (e.g., methylene chloride, hexavalent chromium) known to cause cancer or reproductive harm.

Basic Operation

Hold the DL5 about 12 mm above the skin with LEDs aimed at the lesion. Press the main button (M) to activate cross-polarized mode. Use the lens and focus dial (FD) for clarity. Hold (M) for 1 second to power off. Auto-shutoff occurs after 3 minutes.

Modes

  • Variable Polarization: Tap (M) to toggle modes. Turn (M) to select among 9 settings: cross-, non-, and parallel-polarized light.
  • PigmentBoost: Tap (PB) to add orange light. Tap again to deactivate.
  • UV Mode: Tap (UV) to activate 365 nm UV LEDs. Tap again to return to white light.
  • Torch: Tap (T) for non-polarized white light. Turn (M) to adjust brightness.

Brightness Adjustment

Hold (T) and turn (M) for dermoscopic LED brightness. In UV/PB modes, hold the respective button and turn (M). The indicator bar shows brightness level.

Accessories

  • Eyepiece: Attach to the extension ring (ER) for enhanced viewing.
  • Smartphone Dermoscopy: Use MagnetiConnect (MCC) aligned with your device’s camera. Extend the spacer to "0" and clean the contact plate (CP).
  • Contact Plate: Twist to remove or reattach.
  • Ruler: Magnetically attached to handle. Remove to measure lesions.
  • IceCap: Snap disposable cover over faceplate for infection control. Remove and dispose after use.

Battery & Charging

CAUTION: Use only the designated 3.7V 3000mAh lithium-ion battery from DermLite or an authorized dealer.

The device features a 4-level charge indicator. Use the supplied USB-C cable. The indicator pulses during charging. Replace battery after years of use if capacity diminishes.

Battery Replacement

Remove dial (D), unscrew cover (CS), slide off cover (BC), unplug battery (BP), replace, reconnect, and reassemble securely.

Charging Base

Plug USB cable into the charging base (CB) and place DL5 in with the contact plate facing inward. The base can also store IceCaps.

Visit www.dermlite.com/service or contact a DermLite dealer for support.

Maintenance

CAUTION: No modifications allowed. Repairs must be performed by qualified personnel.

Wipe exterior with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Clean lens using standard lens cleaning tools. Do not autoclave or immerse in liquid.

Warranty

5 years on parts and labor. Battery warranty is 1 year.

Disposal

Dispose of electronics and lithium-ion battery separately per local regulations.
