We’re excited to announce that DermLite MagnetiConnect cases for the new iPhone 17 Series are now available. These precision-molded cases offer a fast, secure, and elegant way to attach any MagnetiConnect-compatible dermatoscope directly to your iPhone.
As with prior models, each case is custom-fit for each exact iPhone variant. So whether you use the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, or iPhone Air, you’ll get perfect optical alignment between your dermatoscope and the device’s camera array.
What’s New About the iPhone 17 Series
For dermoscopy enthusiasts, there’s an additional reason this generation stands out.
All iPhone 17 models now include Apple’s “Macro Control” feature, which was previously exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max versions. This small but important upgrade means that even the baseline iPhone 17—and the lighter iPhone Air—can now give you greater control over close-up photography.:
Why Macro Control Matters for Dermoscopy
Taking dermoscopy photos with your Dermlite requires you to magnetically connect your dermatoscope over one of your phone’s camera lenses. This means that you essentially need to “choose the lens you’ll be using” before you take the picture.
Well, the problem has been that iPhones (under default settings) traditionally attempt to “help” users by automatically switching between lenses, choosing the lens it “thinks” is best, based on a variety of factors – especially that of proximity of the target to the lens.
Unfortunately, this “automatic switching” can cause significant frustration among iPhone-using-dermoscopists. Users will often connect their dermatoscope over one lens, only to have their iPhone sense decide that a different lens would be better. The end result is a constant “lens switching” effect that prevents any dermoscopy photos to be taken at all!

This improvement, combined with Apple’s advanced sensors and higher default image resolution, will hopefully position the iPhone 17 series to be one of the best mobile platforms yet for dermoscopic documentation and teledermatology.
